The basketball seasons are finally over, and we learned this week that men’s coach David Riley will be back for at least one more year as head coach of the men's basketball team despite a pair of sub-.500 finishes in the WCC that included crashing out of this season’s conference tournament last weekend as a heavy favorite over Portland.

Needless to say, based on the show title ... we're not thrilled. There are a lot — A LOT — of reasons to believe things are incredibly unlikely to get better under Riley going forward.

And yet, there are folks out here trying to tell us that we didn’t see what we saw, that this isn’t actually Riley’s fault at all, that the program isn’t well-sourced enough to be expected to do better — Barry Bolton at Cougfan said it, John Canzano said it, and finally, yesterday, the sports editor at the Spokesman-Review said it.

It’s almost like this is a coordinated talking point!

It’s a talking point that, to be quite honest, is actually insulting. Resources aren't why the team blew so many games, played such incompetent defense, and lost game after game as a favorite — including to a pair of sub-200 kenpom teams to end the year.

So, we start the show by poking giant holes in that argument, making the case that Riley really shouldn't be coaching the team going forward. But, since he is … we also evaluate what his return probably means for next year — and beyond.

Plus, beer talk and a brief look at women's basketball's performance in the WCC tournament, where they advanced farther than the men -- despite starting the tournament a whole round earlier.
